Bridges Balling Down

"We fly high, no lie, you know this...BALLIN!"

That song is quickly become the new Whoop There It Is of our generation.

Both Brooklyn College teams lost last nite against City Tech in two very entertaining games. However, it was more of the same tonite: turnovers, questionable shot selection and breakdowns on the defensive end.

The men's team is a lot better than last year, there's question and they play with heart and a chip on their shoulder. The fact of the matter is that if they don't play an up-and-down game, they usually struggle because they're not as good in the half court offense. I do think they'll sneak in the playoffs and they'll make games exciting...but in the end, I think this is a team that is very young and is going to need more experiences like this to become a force to be reckon with and learn how to pull a win from the jaws of defeat. You can kind of compare them to the Knicks in a good way - you can see the talent there, but it's not all in place yet.

If the men are the Knicks, the women are the Nets. Despite losing two interior players, they're still extremely talented and I really thought they had a shot of upsetting CSI for the South Division. But for whatever reason they don't have it together on either side of the floor. Losing Rebecca Powers and Naysheen Collins hurt, no question, but it shouldn't have hurt to this extent. They've added Christina McDonnell, among others to the Double J backcourt and Brittany Natiello, so it's honestly perplexing why they've not been on the same page. Perhaps it was due to the layoff, who knows.

All in all, these were two games both teams could and probably should have won. By the way, the atmosphere at the home games this year has been fantastic, the best I've ever seen in the four years I've covered the team. Shout out to the fans screaming "You s*ck" to the City Tech free throw shooters and you could tell they were rattled at the line.

Finally, the reason why Jim Jones is pictured in this entry. When they played "Ballin", the crowd went nuts. I don't know why since I think the song is alright but nothing revolutionary, but more power to them.

More tomorrow and preview the game against Hunter...

Don't the play the Jay-Z remix version? Instead of "Ballin'!" the hook is "Brooklyn!" And I can't believe that song still hasn't expired. The shelf life for cheesey songs with played out phrases about played out concepts isn't supposed to be that long. The word "ballin'" has been old for like 4 years. And Jimmy Jones, I think, has gone Gold off an independent release (I think his deal earns him $7 for every CD sold, so that's about $3.5M) off one damn single. Most people don't even know 2 lines from the verses. In fact, most people don't even know the actual chorus. Just the part where they yell "BALLIN'!" and the make-believe jump shot. It was funny when it first started and the Giants defense was doing it, now it's sad that it's still got buzz.

As for the Bridges: you said it all. But the difference between them and the Knicks - neither team has an Eddy Curry. He's the new Shaq, homie!

They played both versions.

You know, Eddy could pass for a 21-year-old. Let's put a wig on him and he'll be the center for the women's team.

I saw the women play live. Too many turnovers, bad passes, and missed open shots. They played good defense but they have no size inside so when they played a zone City Tech got offensive rebound after offensive rebound.

And why is the music at the games so loud? Nobody fucking cares about someone blasting the same songs over and over again at max volume in a tiny gym

I agree about the music GatorFan. Not that I'd want to hear the songs on their playlist, but when they turn it up that loud it's just noise. You can't hear the words or the beat so it kills the purpose.

Eddy wouldn't need a wig. Just pull the braids out and perm it. Maybe throw in some curls. We'd have to pay him, though. Maybe get him a key for the vending machines.
