Playoffs? Yes!

This is for my Jet fan fans friends. Altogether now: (cuing Fireman Ed) J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!

They could have played the practice squad against the Raiders, who apparently decided to celebrate the New Year a little early. Congrats go out to the Man-genius. The Jets reward? They get to play the Pats at Foxboro on Sunday, which has the potential to be the most dramatic game of the four playoff games. Should be fun to talk about and dissect for the next week.

As for the rest of the playoff picture, Herm Edwards get his Chiefs improbably into playoffs. Chiefs need three (three!) freaking teams to lose: the Bengals, the Titans, and the Broncos. The Bengals are kind of like the AFC's version of the Giants: lots of talent but extremely inconsistent and emotionally unstable. They lose to the Steelers in OT in what could be Cowher's last game. The Titans got stomped on by the Pats, so it left to the Broncos taking care of business at home against the lowly 49ers. And they lost in overtime. That pretty much explains the NFL this season.

In the JV conference, Detroit takes out Dallas in big D. Can we please stop pontificating Tony Romo as the next Troy Aikman? As a result, Dallas heads to Seattle on Saturday night the Giants go to Philly late Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs take on the Colts on Saturday (Larry Johnson is already salivating at a chance at that run defense) and as mentioned before, the Jets head to New England. The Bears have home field throughout in the NFC, the Saints have a first-round bye while the Super-Chargers have home field throughout in the AFC and the Ravens have the bye.

Have a good new year and enjoy the college football tomorrow.

You saw that Santonio Holmes touchdown, right? He finishes the year with 824 yards and averaged over 10 yards per punt return. He also caught 60% of the passes thrown to him. And that was with Roethlisberger having an awful season. He did all that while starting just 3 games. Hmm...the Giants could've used those numbers.

But, at least we got that AMAZING pass rush. Shoutout to Ernie!

I can't believe what happened to Darrent Williams. A good cornerback coming from the Denver Broncos. In only his 2nd season he had 4 interceptions with 1 touchdown. Football is only a sport nothing to take that serious over life and death. After losing to the San Francisco 49ers and ultimately stopped any chance of making it to the post season. He was shot and killed in a drive by shooting. First player in the NFL to die from their wounds but 3rd in the last 12 months. He was killed in his own limo. Someone shot through it. Denver lost a young star and the people who committed this horrible crime who face great punishment. Darrent Williams will be missed.

Congradulations jets for beating a weak team and taking your destiny into your own hands unlike the giants and kansas city, i didnt get to see much of the game due to me sleeping through it but i definitly will not miss the game against New England that game will be bananas, although i wouldnt call him a genious yet because its only one season and they havent even started the playoffs yet, lest we forget two teams such as the jaguars and steelers last season versus this season, so a big congrats to the jets my hats off to you and a hardy laugh at the giants.

Agreed on Williams. I go to sleep with 1050 on so I literally woke up to the news during a 20/20 update. It's bad. He was one of the better young corners, an up-and-comer. What's worse is that he goes at 24 and leaves behind two children. And it's not as if he'd been a top 10 pick or played long enough to have secured a financial future.

For the coaches and teammates, you see the guy making tackles and tipping passes, then just hours later you get a phone call saying he's been murdered.

What's also disturbing is that investigators reportedly found 12 bullet holes in the driver's side and believe that even more were fired. That's not a random shooting or thugs with bad aim. Not to besmirch his name, but it sounds like he might've had serious beef with the wrong people.

This comes like 3 months after Steven Jackson got punched then hit by a car and fired off outside a club. Little over a year after Kelly Herndon was pistol whipped to a fractured skull outside a club. Steve Foley was shot by the cops a few months ago. A couple seasons ago some scrub on the Celtics got in trouble when he got into a fight and his friend shot the guy. Also in a club. Telfair was robbed of his chain at gunpoint, less than an hour before Fabolous was shot outside Justin's.

I know teams can't stop the players from hanging out, but they should really try to convince them to have house parties or some other alternative. I know they wanna be on the scene, but is it worth it? They're already targets. Late night + alcohol and/or drugs + women + stupidity + criminal element + 'hood mentality + lots of money + ego + jealousy + tempers = potential, almost imminent danger. Even if Athlete X is out having a good time and minding his business, bad luck might have him run into the wrong thug, who happens to be armed and sees him shining with $200,000 worth of ice on.

If I'm Marvin Lewis, I'm calling a team meeting after this and begging the Bengals to learn from it. If I'm Marvin, I'm also hoping that Chris Henry wasn't the shooter.
